Assateague Island, Maryland

January 14, 2013 the WooFDriver and his crew took the WooFPAK on a special beach mushing adventure on Assateague Island in Maryland. The island was going to be a private resort community called Ocean Beach, Maryland. 5,000 private lots where destroyed in the storm of 1962. The northeastern ripped apart roads and structures. The housing development firm sold all the land the the federal government therefore the national seashore was created in 1965.

Even to people who have never been here, Assateague’s wild horses are well known. The wild horses on Assateague are actually feral animals, descendants of domestic animals that have reverted to the wild. They are tough enough to for the scorching heat, abundant mosquitoes, stormy weather and poor quality food found on this remote barrier island.
